United Breweries Faces Rs 22.5 Crore Tax Demand from Maharashtra VAT Authorities, Plans Legal Challenge
United Breweries Limited has disclosed that it has received an order dated March 30, 2026, passed by the Deputy Commissioner of State Tax, Maharashtra State VAT Department, under Section 9(2) of the Central Sales Tax Act 1956.
The said order has imposed an additional tax amounting to Rs 9.65 crore, interest of Rs 10.42 crore, and a penalty of Rs 2.41 crore, resulting in an aggregate demand of Rs 22.50 crore. The demand concerns the non-submission of declaration forms in C and F for the concessional rate of tax for the Financial Year 2021-22.
As per the disclosure, the company had received the order on April 01, 2026. The company is currently deciding what to do about the demand notice it received from the Maharashtra VAT authorities and believes that it has a strong case to challenge the demand raised before an appropriate appellate authority.
