Major exams in the country, including civil services exams, CA exams, and state engineering tests, have been impacted by the Lok Sabha general elections in 2024. The upcoming elections, which run from April 6 to June 1, have resulted in changes to exam schedules at both the secondary and postsecondary levels.
Prior to the release of election dates, ICAI and University Grants Commission (UGC) chief M Jagadesh both stated that the CA and CUET exam dates could be altered.
The postponement of the CA exams 2024 did not go well with the CA students, who are now demanding that the exams be postponed till after the elections so that they can utilize their voting rights.
Despite the fact that the exams will be held during the elections, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is reportedly refusing to change its decision on the three national entrance exams – Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024, National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2024, and the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2024.

The Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE) prelims 2024, one of the most difficult exams in the country, has been pushed back to June 16 due to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The preliminary exam was originally planned for May 26.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) revised the CA Intermediate and Final exams 2024 for the May session because the dates clashed with the Lok Sabha elections 2024. According to the amended CA May examination schedule 2024, the CA Inter exams will be held on May 3, 5, and 9 for group 1 and May 11, 15, and 17 for group 2. CA Final Exams 2024 will take place on May 2, 4, and 8 for group 1, and May 10, 14, and 16 for group 2.
Another significant shift in exam dates occurred for the Telangana Common Entrance Tests (CETs) for agriculture, pharmacy, polytechnic, and management programs. The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has moved the TS EAPCET 2024 for agriculture and pharmacy to May 7 and 8, respectively. Previously, the exam were set for May 12-13. On the other side, TS ICET 2024 has been rescheduled for June 5 and 6. Furthermore, the TS POLYCET 2024 examination has been postponed for May 24.
The Lok Sabha election also had an impact on online course examinations, since the National Testing Agency (NTA) has delayed the Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) January 2024 semester exam. According to the revised dates, the SWAYAM January 2024 exam will be held on May 27 rather than May 25. The exam date clashed with the election dates, prompting the decision.
The National Entrance Test for the Scheme of Residential Education for Students in Higher Classes in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA NETS) 2024 has also been moved to May 11.
The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) cell has changed the exam dates for MHT CET 2024, MAH LLB 5-year CET 2024, and MH Nursing CET 2024, among other exams. While MHT CET has been rescheduled for April 22-30 for the medical group and May 2-16 for engineering, the LLB exam will now take place on May 17.
The elections have had an impact on both higher education and school education. The Rajasthan government has postponed the RBSE Class 5 board exams 2024 to April 30 because the schools would be converted into polling stations. Earlier, the exams were scheduled to begin on April 15.
