15 booked for beating three men by calling them fake GST Officials
Citing the October 9 incident in which three Khanna residents were beaten up by several dry fruit sellers and miscreants at the Kesar Ganj market, accusing them of being fake GST officials, the city police yesterday filed a case against 15 unknown assailants.
During the event, shopkeepers called the police on the spot, who brought them to the police station for an investigation.
When the issue was investigated, an unexpected revelation emerged. Some mischievous young people had spread false rumors in the market about the men who had come to buy dry fruits, accusing them of being fake GST officers and beating them up.
Complainant Harcharan Singh, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar in Khanna, stated that on October 9, he drove to the Kesar Ganj market with his friends Ashish Verma and Gurjant Singh to purchase dry fruits.
While he was purchasing dry fruits, some rebellious youngsters entered the store. Without asking, those youngsters accused him and his companions of being fake GST officers, causing noise. After hearing the noises, several further shopkeepers arrived, and the shopkeepers and bystanders began hitting them without asking questions.
Harcharan stated that “my turban fell off during the fight. The shopkeepers provided incorrect information to the media, taped the video, and posted it live on social media. By doing so, the miscreants have harmed our public image.”
Meanwhile, investigating officer ASI Baljinder Singh stated that an inquiry was underway to identify the offenders.
