GST Authority arrest four people in GST Evasion Case

The Union Finance Ministry provided vital information in relation to tax evasion, on Monday. Earlier this week, the Goods and Services Tax Authority made four arrests in connection with tax evasion, according to a representative for the Finance Ministry. In the fight against phoney challans, these arrests were made.

As part of its campaign against fraudulent invoices, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) authority detained four people last week in separate incidents of tax evasion totaling 52 crore and 78 crore, a spokesperson for the Union finance ministry said on Monday.

According to the source, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Delhi West Commissionerate detained a man on Wednesday for allegedly aiding at least six businesses in stealing input tax credits (ITC) by using fictitious invoices and the Aadhaar identifying number. Separately, the official reported that the CGST Mumbai Zone had detained three business partners on Sunday for allegedly evading GST in the amount of 78 crore. The official also stated that the tax authorities were heavily utilising data analytics and artificial intelligence to detect tax evasion and apprehend offenders.

The spokesperson stated that due to an alert we had received, the CGST Delhi West Commissionerate had opened a probe into M/s Niyati Steels. The ministry claims that the company has accessed 7.7 crore in ITC. By himself, Karan Kumar Agarwal has agreed to this. Six distinct companies had ties to Karan Kumar Agarwal. Currently under judicial detention is Karan Kumar Agarwal.
