Income Tax Return Filing 2023: The Deadline of Filing Income Tax Return is 3 Days away, i.e. 31st July 2023. The Government is urging from the taxpayers to file their tax return before due date to avoid rush in last minute.

While various CA and Tax Association approach and request the government to extend the deadline of Filing ITR. From which one of the Association is Advocates Tax Bar Association. Advocates Tax Bar Association(ATBA) has send representation to Finance Minister to extend Income Tax Return Filing Deadline in lieu of flood and heavy rainfall affected the city and livelihood.

In his representation ATBA Stated, “With great respect, we are writing to you on behalf of the members of the Advocates’ Tax Bar Association, a prestigious organisation comprised of tax advocates from across India. We strongly appreciate the government’s efforts to solve the issues that our country’s residents endure, particularly during natural disasters. As you are aware, different parts of our nation are now facing persistent flooding and major rainfall, causing significant destruction and loss of life and property. These sad events have had a significant impact on the lives and livelihoods of our fellow people, especially our members. In view of these upsetting circumstances, we would like to draw your attention to an urgent concern affecting the tax community.

The deadlines for reporting GST have coincided with the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) in non-audit scenarios (31st July 2023). There must be a time lag between these compliances in order for taxpayers/tax professionals to efficiently spend their time and resources. However, due to unanticipated circumstances, the present convergence of these dates has caused considerable complications for taxpayers/tax professionals, especially in flood-affected areas. Our members, who work tirelessly as tax activists and advisors, are finding it incredibly difficult to meet their professional responsibilities within the current timescale. The ongoing calamity response activities, as well as the consequent impact on infrastructure, transportation, and connection, have made meeting the coming deadlines very difficult.

In view of these extraordinary circumstances, we respectfully request your assistance in extending the deadline for submitting Income Tax Returns by 60 days, until September 30, 2023. This extension would give much-needed respite to taxpayers and tax experts, allowing them to focus on flood-affected areas’ restoration and recovery efforts while simultaneously assuring compliance with their tax duties.

We recognise that the government’s resources are similarly stretched during these difficult times, and we appreciate your attention to our issues. We are certain that extending the income tax return filing date will indicate the government’s sympathy and understanding for the challenges experienced by individuals and tax professionals in flood-affected areas.

We are certain that your expertise and leadership will guide you in making the appropriate decision to assist the taxpayers/tax professionals who have been impacted by this tragic chain of events. On behalf of the members of the Advocates’ Tax Bar Association, I express our heartfelt appreciation for taking the time to consider our request and assure you of our continuous support in creating a better and more resilient India.”
