DRI seized Smuggled Cocaine worth over Rs.7.85 Crores

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)’s Officers detained one male Ugandan traveller suspected of carrying narcotics at the CSMI Airport in Mumbai on Monday (7th August, 2023) based on particular intelligence.

When questioned, the traveller acknowledged to ingesting drug-containing pills and transporting them in his body for smuggling into India. The passenger was brought before the Magistrate and, by court order, was taken to the JJ Hospital in Mumbai.

A total of 65 capsules containing 785 grams of cocaine, valued at Rs. 7.85 Crores, were recovered from his body and seized on Thursday (August 10, 2023) under the NDPS Act, 1985.

The aforementioned passenger was apprehended in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, and an investigation is underway to identify additional members of this multinational syndicate involved in illicit drug smuggling into India.
