Know the reason behind ICAI’s decision of conducting CA Exams 3 Times a year

As per the official Statement of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) dated 8th March 2024, CA Foundation and CA Intermediate Exams will be held 3 times in a year i.e, January, May/June, and September.

Now there are various talks and confusion as to why this step has been taken, the reason for the same has been provided by the ICAI President. He said in an event “Now students of CA Inter will get a chance to give an exam every 4 months. As per the revised CA Course curriculum, unless you cleared the exam of both the groups of CA Intermediate, you cannot start with the Articleship Traning. Now in the revised CA Course curriculum, the articleship period has been reduced from 3 years to two years years and there will not be any examination in between the articleship training. CA Students will now have uninterrupted Articleship Training.”

The decision taken by the institute will benefit students who have completed their study period to appear for the exam without waiting for 2 months. Globally the frequency of examinations is increasing so as to give more opportunities to the students. ICAI was aligning itself to the global practices. This has been done to make sure that the young students are encouraged to pursue the course of Chartered Accountancy.

Currently, ICAI has 4 Lakh Members and 8.5 Lakh CA students. As per the ICAI President, the country needs 30 Lakhs Chartered Accountants (CAs) in the year 2047, when India will be among the developed nations.
