Monday Bank Holiday: Are Banks Open or Closed Today?

Banks will be closed in a few states for three days in a row beginning this Saturday, August 24, 2024. Some states will observe a bank holiday on Monday, August 26, in honour of Krishna Janmashtami.

According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks in certain parts of the country will be closed on Monday, August 26 for Janmashtami.

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami, Gokulashtami, or Krishnasthami, is an annual Hindu festival observed by followers of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha during Shraavana and Bhadrapad.

Banks will close in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, and Srinagar in occasion of this festival.

No holiday in Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, New Delhi and Goa state.

It should be noted that bank holidays change across the country depending on the state. Customers may consult their nearest bank branch for a list of holidays.
