FM Nirmala Sitharaman Denies Social Media Claims of Corruption and Delays in GST Registration
On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman supported the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) after it released a detailed clarification about social media allegations of delays and corruption in the process of GST registration.
This happened after a user on Platform X shared a screenshot of posted allegations by a LinkedIn user who claimed that they had waited for 20 days without receiving GST registration approval and alleged corruption in the process.
In response, the CBIC publicly rejected the claims, to which Sitharaman shared a post on platform X where she wrote, “To provide service to the taxpayer is our duty. While so serving the taxpayers, transparency and integrity are crucial in earning their trust and confidence. Confident that the Board and the field formations will remain sensitive and responsive.”

However, CBIC explained what really happened. It said that the application in the question was filed on May 26, 2025, and it was handled under the jurisdiction of the Delhi State GST authority and not the Central GST. It added that the GST officers from Delhi had worked on this case immediately and needed the information about the designation of the company representative who signed the rent agreement on behalf of the company.
CBIC has no idea of ground reality of corruption in GST Registrations. Their Executive Officers are so corrupt that even VG Sir has to vent out his frustration. Better Top level Officers take control of Registrations to save the country from corruption.
