CA Students: Think You Deserved More Marks in CA Exams? How to File RTI and Check

This guide provides a simple, step-by-step explanation of how ICAI CA, CS, or CMA students can apply for certified copies of their exam answer sheets through the RTI (Right to Information) Online Portal. How to Apply Through RTI?

• Step 1. Visit the official website of RTI at https://rtionline.gov.in/. Now, click on the “Submit Request” option to submit your RTI application.
• Note: The RTI application form can also be submitted directly without forming a user ID. However, it is suggested to first register on the portal because this assists you in keeping track of your application.
• Step 2. “Guidelines for Use of RTI Online Portal” will appear on the screen. This screen displays guidelines for how to use the RTI online portal. Now click on ‘I have read and understood the above guidelines’ and then on the submit option.
• Step 3. The online RTI Request Form will be displayed on the screen. Now, from the Select Ministry/Department/Apex Body dropdown, select your ministry or department. Select the “Ministry of Corporate Affairs” option and then “The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.”
• Step 4. An SMS alert will be sent to the applicant on their registered mobile number. The fields marked with a star (*) are compulsory, while all the other options are optional.
• Step 5. Fill in all the necessary details and write your request in brief in the text box given for the RTI application.
• Step 6. You can write up to 3000 characters in the RTI request box. If your message is longer than that, you can upload it as a separate file in the “supporting document” section. If you’re asking for certified copies, you can use the sample format given in the article—just copy and paste it.
• Step 7. Once you have filled in all the details, click on the ‘Make Payment’ button. The fee is Rs. 10 for regular citizens. If you are from the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category, you don’t have to pay any fees.
• Step 8. Once you submit the application form, a special registration number will be sent to you. You can use this number later to check the status of your request or for any future reference.
• Step 9. Applicants will be sent an email and SMS alert once the application is submitted.
