Fake Notification Regarding ITR Due Date Extension Circulating on Social Media

The due date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is September 15, 2025, i.e., today, for the non-audit cases. With only one day left, there has been a message circulating on social media, saying that the due date for filing ITR for the AY 2025-26 has been extended to September 30, 2025. The notification is sent in a format that initially seems genuine, as if it is issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), but it is not genuine.

This is a fake message circulating over social media, and it has not been issued by CBDT. The body has not issued any official notice regarding the ITR filing due date extension. Taxpayers should be aware that this is a fake message. As of now, the due date for ITR filing is September 15, 2025.

Do not trust unofficial sources or social media updates. For any official notifications, always visit the government’s official website. Additionally, taxpayers should not forward these fake messages, as they create confusion and panic among other taxpayers.
