Suresh Prabhu Urges Finance Ministry to Extend Tax Audit Due Date
In an effort to give some relief to taxpayers and chartered accountants, Suresh Prabhu, the Former Minister of Civil Aviation of India, has shown support for the professionals, tweeting that he has received many representations from Chartered Accountants, advocates and tax practitioners requesting extra time for filing the tax audit due date beyond September 30, 2025.
Prabhu has appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Income Tax Department, and the Finance Ministry to consider the requests favourably.
The demand for extension comes due to the ongoing technical glitches on the Income Tax e-filing portal and the late release of key utilities. Due to these issues, it has become difficult to meet the deadline within the due date. The professionals and CAs have requested the government, but there is no reply from their side. Several writ petitions have been filed against the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). As of now, only the Karnataka High Court and the Rajasthan High Court have directed the CBDT to extend the due dates for their states.
With the huge number of increasing requests and writ petitions, the income tax department is expected to come out with a notification soon for the nationwide deadline extension, which is much needed.
I have received many representations from members of @theicai , Advocates, tax practitioners etc for extension of time for filing requisite compliance beyond 30 September . Requesting @nsitharaman @IncomeTaxIndia to kindly consider it favourably @FinMinIndia #TaxAuditExtension…
