MeitY Authorises Police Officers to Investigate Online Gaming Crimes

The Indian Government had recently notified the new online gaming rules to operationalise the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025. This new act is applicable from May 1, 2026.

The central government, according to section 15 of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, has authorized the police officers to conduct investigation into the cases concerning online gaming.

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the concerned cyber cell officers in states and union territories, along with other cyber cell nodal officers at the police station level, district level, or commissionerate level, can conduct the investigation in regard to the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act.

This new measure will help in protecting users and maintaining trust in the gaming industry.
