GST Appeals Authority Upholds Rs 14.29 Crore TCS Demand Against Meesho Limited
Meesho Limited has told the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited that it received an official order from the Tax Department on 28 April 2026. The department had originally issued this order on 24 April 2026. This order has been issued by the Thane-based Commissioner (Appeals), Mumbai, under the Central Goods and Services Tax.
This matter is related to Tax Collected at Source (TCS). The department says that Meesho neither collected nor deposited TCS properly on some transactions. These transactions took place between October 1, 2018, and March 31, 2020, under section 52. According to the department, some sellers also sold outside the Meesho platform. TCS should have been applicable in such cases also.
The Appellate Authority has upheld the tax demand of approximately Rs 14.29 crore. This amount also includes applicable interest. However, the authority has removed the penalty that was earlier imposed under Section 122 of the CGST Act.
Meesho does not agree with this order. The company considers that this demand is wrong and does not have merit. The company has said that it has strong legal and factual grounds to challenge this decision. Meesho will file an appeal in the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) within the prescribed time limit.
Meesho has clarified that this matter will not have any material impact on its financial position, business operations, or other activities. The company is confident that its case will be strong in this case, and the result may be in its favour.
