Government Appoints Officers for Enquiry and Imposition of Penalties under Code on Wages, 2019

Recently, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued a notification for the appointment of officers for the purpose of holding an enquiry and imposing a penalty on May 12, 2026.

The Central Government, using the powers given under Section 53 of the Code on Wages, 2019, has appointed the officers listed in the table below. These officers are authorised to conduct enquiries and impose penalties wherever necessary.

These powers apply to establishments for which the central government is the appropriate authority. Each officer will exercise these powers within the area mentioned in the table:

5All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Bengaluru RegionThe State of Karnataka.
6All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Bhubaneswar RegionThe State of Odisha.
7All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Chandigarh RegionThe States of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh.
8All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Chennai RegionThe State of Tamil Nadu and the Union territory of Puducherry (except Yanam and Mahe districts).
