ACB arrests Assistant Sales Tax Commissioner for Bribe of Rs.20 Lakh A Senior Officer in the Maharashtra government's sales tax (GST) department was arrested by the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau for reportedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.20 lakh from the complainant. Dhananjay Shirsat, the assistant sales tax commissioner (GST), has been arrested for the suspected offence, according to an ACB official. Shirsat had taken the bribe amount of Rs.20 lakh out of the desired value of Rs.30 lakh, according to the deputy superintendent of police (ACB) Maya More. Shirsat had demanded Rs.30 lakh from a hotel owner in the city's Kapurbawdi neighbourhood for failing to complete the assessment for the previous year and failing to give a new GST registration. The offended complainant reported the demand to Thane ACB officers, who investigated it and then set up a trap for Shirsat, arresting the officer who had accepted the bribe of Rs.20 lakh from the complainant, according to an ACB official. According to the official, an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been recorded with the Thane Nagar Police Station. Source: Times of India
