Auditor & 2 Others Arrested in Karnataka PSI recruitment scam

The Karnataka Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested three people, including an Auditor, in connection with the alleged Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment fraud on Monday night.

Chandrakanth Patil, an Auditor and Kalaburagi resident, Prabhu, a candidate, and his father Sharanappa were detained. Kulkarni was apprehended late Monday evening, while the father-son duo was apprehended on Tuesday. Patil was paid Rs 50 lakh in two installments for assisting Prabhu in passing the exams on October 3, last year.

According to reports, Chandrakanth worked as an auditor for Mahanthesh Patil, the former Afzalpur block president of the Congress, and his brother Rudragouda. The police further stated that Prabhu took the PSI exam at the MSI college in Kalaburagi, and that his father Sharanappa allegedly paid money to ensure that his son passed the exam.

Prabhu received 136.375 points, including 22 points in paper 1 (out of 50 points) and 114.375 points in paper 2 (out of 150 points), to place 45th in the Kalyana Karnataka region, which has a reservation.

According to a police officer, Chandrakanth allegedly assisted a candidate in striking a deal with Rudragouda Patil in order to pass the PSI recruitment exam. Earlier, Mahanthesh and Rudragouda were detained in connection with a scam. The CID has detained 40 people, including multiple candidates, in the suspected recruitment fraud so far, with more than 12 arrests in Bengaluru alone. An FIR has been launched against 22 candidates in Bengaluru alone.

“We are acting harsh against the criminals,” stated Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Ballari on Tuesday. Nobody should help or shelter them. He was addressing at the Ballari Regional Forensic Sciences Laboratory, which was inaugurated by Union Minister Amit Shah.
