Bharat Bijlee Limited has received an income tax demand order of Rs 58,30,903 for the assessment year 2020-21, the company said in a regulatory filing dated October 1, 2026.
The order was passed by Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax-6(1)(2) under section 154 of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The order was made on the Income Tax e-filing portal on September 28, 2026.
According to Bharat Bijlee, the demand is related to an excess refund issued to the company earlier and the resulting adjustment or re-computation of interest under Section 244A of the Income Tax Act.
The company clarified that no violation or contravention has been alleged against it in connection with the demand.
Bharat Bijlee said it will take the necessary steps to pay the amount in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Income Tax Act. It also stated that the order is not expected to have any material impact on its operations.
The company further explained that the amount mentioned in the demand order differs from the outstanding demand shown on the Income Tax e-filing portal. An internal ticket has been raised with the tax authorities to address the discrepancy.
