Budget 2026: Union Budget 2026 to be announced on Sunday or 2nd Feburary? As Budget session of parliament approaches, many people are confused about the date of the presentation of the Union Budget for 2026 by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as there are many speculations regarding the same. Since 2017, the Union Budget has usually been presented on February 1 so that Parliament has enough time to discuss and approve it before the new financial year starts on April 1.

This year, February 1 falls on a Sunday, which has led to speculation that the government might move the budget presentation to Monday, February 2. Adding to this, February 1 is also Guru Ravidas Jayanti, which is a holiday in some states. On this day, government offices and stock markets are closed. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs will meet on Wednesday to decide the exact date for the budget.

Earlier Weekend Budgets Presenting the Union Budget on a weekend isn’t a new thing. For example, in 2025, it was presented on a Saturday. Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also did it on weekends once on Saturday, February 28, 2015, and again on Sunday, February 28, 2016. The 2016 budget was even during a leap year, which made the calendar a bit different.
