CAIT to launch Nationwide Movement from Jan 1st to improve E-Commerce and GST
The Confederation of All India Traders(CAIT) has announced a massive nationwide agitation from 1st January to 31st March 2023 for streamlining e-commerce and for simplification and rationalization of the GST structure.
Praveen Khandelwal, national general secretary of the business group CAIT, said in a statement released on Sunday that the central government has failed to bring the regulations and practises of e-commerce under the Consumer Protection Act even after more than three years.
Since trade is a state concern and state governments have been mute spectators even after the loss of GST revenue at the hands of foreign e-commerce companies, not only the central government but also the state governments are to blame for this.
The empowerment of small businesses, ease of doing business, simplification of taxes, etc. have all been strongly supported by the nation’s business community for a long time, according to Khandelwal, but it is regrettable that there is no policy or regulation governing e-commerce in the nation. He said that drafts of both policy and rules of e-commerce under the Consumer Protection Act have been prepared for a long time, but due to bureaucracy those files are biting dust.
Khandelwal announced a three-month-long “Clean Indian Business” national movement in the nation’s capital. From January 1 to January 7, business organisations nationwide will launch a national e-mail campaign, under which foreign e-commerce companies will make a difference in the nation, Khandelwal said. Emails will be sent to the Central and State Governments, as well as to all political parties, requesting that they comprehend the problems and sufferings of India’s business community.
