CBI arrests a Plant Protection Officer and Field Assistant in Bribery Case of Rs.12,000
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Plant Protection Officer (PPO) and Field Assistant, both officials of Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu (Govt. of J&K) in bribery of Rs.12,000/-.
A complaint was filed against the accused, who was accused of requesting a bribe of Rs.15,000/-. It was stated that the Complainant (a member of an agriculture cooperative society engaged in sale, stocking, and distribution) had filed an application with the Plant Protection Officer in Jammu for the inclusion of pesticide products from particular manufacturers in his cooperative organization's licence. It was also claimed that the Plant Protection Officer (PPO) and Field Assistant wanted a payment of Rs.15,000/- from the Complainant in order for his application to be approved. Later, the bribe was agreed to be Rs.12,000/-.
The CBI set a trap for the accused while asking and collecting a bribe of Rs.12,000/- from the complainant. The accused's office and home premises in Jammu and Kathua were searched.
Both of the apprehended suspects were brought before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jammu today.
