Chandigarh MC Inspector Held in Rs 14 Lakh Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sanitary Inspector working with the Municipal Corporation (MC), Chandigarh, in a bribery case.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on October 7, 2026, after allegations that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 14 lakh from a contractor. The money was allegedly sought for clearing the contractor’s pending bills and processing future bills of his firm.
The accused allegedly threatened the contractor that if the bribe was not paid, his bills would be stopped and his firm’s tender could be cancelled.
The CBI laid a trap on October 7 and caught the Sanitary Inspector red-handed while he was allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 5 lakh as the first part of the Rs 14 lakh bribe.
Following the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at the accused’s residential and office premises. During the searches, officials recovered documents suspected to be related to the case, along with papers concerning immovable properties. The arrested accused is expected to be produced before the competent court in Chandigarh today.
The CBI said that further investigation into the case is underway.
