CBI Registers Major Corruption Case in Punjab Over Alleged Manipulation of Officer Transfers, Government Decisions and Administrative Matters

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Punjab Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Rajbir Ghuman and five others over allegations of corruption and manipulation of government decisions. The case was registered following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court and a report received from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

According to the CBI, the accused allegedly influenced the postings and transfers of government officers, including IAS and IPS officers, and interfered in departmental proceedings and other government matters in exchange for money. The allegations also include influencing policy decisions, administrative approvals, tender conditions, licensing matters, land-use conversion, property disputes and revenue and land-related issues.

The agency has also alleged that some public servants accessed government orders and policy drafts before they were officially issued and shared them with private individuals.

The CBI has named six accused persons in the case, including two public servants, middlemen and their associates. Those named are Rajbir Ghuman, OSD to the Punjab Chief Minister; Nitin Gohal; Jitin Gohal alias Raja; Romi Raja Mahajan; Bir Devinder; and R.S. Nagra. The FIR also names unknown public servants and private persons.

Following the registration of the case, the CBI carried out searches at eight locations in Chandigarh, Mohali, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur and Jalandhar. The searches were conducted at premises linked to the accused.

During the searches, the agency seized laptops, mobile phones and documents. The material is being examined for evidence related to alleged bribery and other irregularities.

The CBI said the investigation is continuing and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
