CBI Arrests Senior Officer of NHAI in a Bribery Case of Rs.10 Lakh

The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI)  arrested Chief General Manager(Tech) & Regional Officer, NHAI, Gandhinagar(Gujarat) and a private person(a representative of Mumbai based private company) in a bribery of Rs.10 Lakh.

A case was filed against the Chief General Manager (Tech) and Regional Officer of the NHAI in Gandhinagar, the Manager Director of a private company with its headquarters in Mumbai and an official of that company, the MD of a private company with its headquarters in Ahmedabad and an official of that company, the General Manager of another private company with its headquarters in Gandhinagar, as well as other unidentified public employees and private individuals. According to allegations, the Chief General Manager (Tech) & Regional Officer (RO)-NHAI, Gandhinagar (Gujarat) and others engaged in illegal activity in order to favour private company representatives working on NHAI projects under his jurisdiction by issuing completion certificates, processing bills, moving the awarded works along smoothly, and other things.

More specifically, it was claimed that company representatives had contact with the Regional Officer of NHAI, Gandhinagar, in order to obtain favours for their ongoing projects Package-I (Ahmedabad-Dholera from KM 0.00 to KM 22.00); Package-II (Ahmedabad-Dholera from KM 22.00 to KM 48.52); and RE Wall (reinforced earth wall, used to support soil laterally so that it can be retained at different levels on both (Ahmedabad-Dholera from KM 48.52 to KM 71.06). Additionally, it was claimed that in order to carry out the aforementioned conspiracy, the said private company representative consented to visit the CGM/RO, NHAI at his Gandhinagar home.

On behalf of other companies as well, the corporate representative allegedly collected payments for unfair advantages that were to be given to an NHAI officer.

The CBI detained the representative of the aforementioned private enterprise and the CGM of the NHAI and retrieved the Rs. 10 lakh in bribe money from the apartment of the aforementioned NHAI officer.

The locations of the accused and others were searched, including those in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh, and Jaipur. Approximately Rs. 20.50 lakh in cash was found during searches of the claimed CGM’s premises.

Both of the arrested suspects will be presented to the appropriate court.
