CBI Arrests Superintendents of GST & Customs in Bribery Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two superintendents of GST and a superintendent of Customs in Karnataka in bribery case.
In First Case, the Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested two Superintendents of GST, Bellery (Karnataka) in a bribery of Rs.80,000/-.
A complaint was filed against a Superintendent working in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Central Tax, GST Division, Bellary, and unknown others, alleging that they demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000/- in exchange for dismissing the Complainant's file in connection with GST payment delays. The bribe demand was allegedly decreased to Rs. 80,000/- afterwards. The accused was apprehended by the CBI while seeking and taking a bribe of Rs.80,000/- from the complainant. During the trap, the other Superintendent was also caught. Searches are being carried out at the accused's home and place of business.
Both defendants will be brought before the Bangalore Jurisdictional Court tomorrow.
In a second case, the CBI has detained a Superintendent of Customs in Chamarajpet, Bangalore, for allegedly asking and accepting a bribe of Rs.8,500/- from the complainant.
On the charges of requesting bribes for clearance of goods imported by the Complainant, a case was filed against a Superintendent of Customs, Chamarajpet, Bangalore, and others. The CBI set a trap for the accused, who demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs.8,500/-. Incriminating documents were discovered after searches were performed at the premises of the accused in Bangalore.
The arrested suspect was brought before the Bangalore Jurisdictional Court and remanded to Judicial Custody.
