CBIC Warns Taxpayers Against Fake GST Notices Circulating Online The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) recently posted on their social media platform 'X', previously known as Twitter, regarding fake GST violation notices. CBIC has warned taxpayers to be careful about fake notices and messages. Many scammers are now pretending to be GST officials to cheat people. These fraudsters are sending fake summons and notices that look very real. They copy official formats, CGST logo, and even mention fake Document Identification Numbers (DIN) to make the documents appear genuine.

CBIC has clarified that these notices are completely fake and are meant to mislead taxpayers into sharing personal details or paying money. Taxpayers are advised not to panic, not to respond to such messages, and to always verify any GST notice through official GST portals or authorised channels before taking any action. What Should Taxpayers do? Instead of panicking, the taxpayer must verify if the notice is real or fake. Here's how you can check the authenticity of the notice: Step 1: Visit 'cbic.gov.in'. Step 2: Search for the Document Identification Number (DIN). Step 3: Fill in the captcha code. Step 4: If the notice is genuine, the system will display the issuing office and date. If the system does not recognise the DIN, the document is fraudulent.
