Centrally-Sponsored PM Shri Schools Scheme Approved by the Cabinet; Aims to Develop 14500 Schools

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently announced its approval for the launch of the Centrally Sponsored PM Shri schools. It is a new centrally sponsored scheme that aims at the development of more than 14500 schools across the country. A huge amount of Rs. 27,300 crores has been allocated for school modernization under PM Shri Yojana to set up model schools. As per the information, the PM Shri Schools will be showcasing all the components of the National Education Policy 2020 and will act as exemplary schools. Mentorship to other schools will also be offered in their vicinity.

Under the following scheme that will be considered validated for up to five years,  that is between 2022 to 2027, the Centre has a plan to strengthen as many as 14,500 schools at a cost of Rs. 27,360 Crores. The schools that will be included in the following scheme are Kendriya Vidyalas and Navodya Vidyalaya.

As per the words of the Minister of Education Dharmendra Prasad, “The Union Cabinet is approving the launch of a brand new scheme for the establishment of PM-Shri Schools. Around 14,000 schools including Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodya Vidyalaya will get strengthened to emerge as PM-Shri Schools.

Each school in the scheme will be allocated Rs. 2 crores every two years for development. Also, the school authorities will have the flexibility to use up to 40 percent of the funds.

The scheme will be aiming to provide high-quality education in an inevitable, inclusive, and joyful school environment that takes care of diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and different academic abilities of children. The scheme will also make the students active participants in their own learning process as per the vision of NEP 2020.  According to the scheme, the performance of the schools and their students will be tracked using a portal.
