Digital India Boost: Post Offices Set to Accept UPI & Online Payments from August

Earlier post offices in India were not able to accept digital payments as they lacked their accounts synced with UPI or Unique Payment Interface. But this issue will be resolved soon as starting from August 2025, post offices will start accepting digital payments at their counters after the completion of the rollout of a new application in their IT system.

An official source disclosed, “the Department of Posts is implementing its IT infrastructure which will have new applications that are enabled to perform transactions with Dynamic QR Code. Rollout will be completed at all post offices by August 2025.”

The trials have already begun of the rollout of the new system under IT 2.0 in the Karnataka circle. QR-based booking of mail products was successfully carried out at the Mysore head office, Bagalkot head office and its subordinate offices.

There had previously been introduction of static QR codes at the Point of Sale counters, but it was later discontinued as there were continuous technical difficulties and complaint from customers.
