Director of a company held in Job Scam
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) arrested Amit Katyal on November 11, 2023, in connection with money laundering investigations launched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002 in the Land for Job Scam.
The ED launched an inquiry based on a CBI FIR relating to the Land for Job Scam, alleging that Lalu Prasad Yadav, the then Railway Minister, engaged in corruption for the appointment of Group D substitutes in Indian Railways between 2004 and 2009.
According to the FIR, the underprivileged candidates were told to transfer land as a bribe in exchange for jobs in the Indian Railways. In addition, the CBI has filed a charge sheet. One of the accused is M/s AK Infosystems Pvt. Ltd.
When one of the lands from candidates was obtained by the abovementioned company on behalf of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Amit Katyal was the Director of M/s AK Infosystems Pvt. Ltd, according to ED findings.
The company's registered address is D-1088, New Friends Colony, New Delhi, which is the home of Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family. Amit Katyal obtained several more lands in the said company in exchange for undue privileges from Lalu Prasad Yadav when he was Minister of Railways.
Following the acquisition of the lands, shares of the aforementioned company were transferred to Lalu Prasad Yadav's family members in 2014.
Earlier, on 10-03-2023, the ED conducted search operations that resulted in the seizure of approximately Rs. 1 Crore in cash and approximately Rs. 1.25 Crore in valuables.
On July 29, 2023, the ED has provisionally attached immovable properties worth Rs. 6.02 crore. On November 11, 2023, Amit Katyal appeared before the Hon'ble Special Court. The Supreme Court granted ED custody until November 16, 2023.
Further investigation is being conducted.
