GST Inspector Caught for Accepting Rs 5000 Bribe to issue a GST number
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team, Faridabad, arrested a female GST Inspector on Monday. She was working at the Office of the District Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Palwal and was caught red-handed while she was taking a bribe of Rs 5000 to issue a GST number to a complainant.
The GST Inspector has been identified as Sumitra. She was earlier arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Panipat in 2022 for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, along with Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Roshan Lal, who was also accused. A senior ACB officer confirmed that a charge sheet in the 2022 case was filed in July of that year, and the case is still under trial.
The complainant in the most recent case claimed to have filed for a GST number in Palwal. According to reports, Sumitra called him on May 27 and requested that he come to the GST office. Sumitra allegedly pointed out errors in his documents when he arrived at the office on May 30 and requested a Rs 5,000 cash bribe to finalize the application.
