GST Raid: GST Officials assaulted, kidnapped for ransom during raid

On Wednesday, the Saroor Nagar police of the Rachakonda Commissionerate detained a scrap trader and his associates who had allegedly assaulted GST officers, kidnapped them, and demanded ransom from them at Saroor Nagar when the latter had come to raid the scap unit operating on a false GST registration.

The defendants are named as Grade I Iron store owner Syed Feroz, Syed Mujeeb, Shaik Imtiyaz, and Syed Musheer, all of whom are from the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and operate their businesses in Saroor Nagar. The kidnapped cops quickly contacted their superiors, who then alerted them, and they were recovered in a short period of time, according to DCP LB Nagar B Sai Sri. It has been discovered that Mujeeb is connected to an Andhra Pradesh political party.

According to the police, two officers from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) were conducting raids on the scrap business in Kranti Nagar operated by the accused Mujeeb after receiving information that several units were operating under false GST registrations.

Their ID cards were initially displayed. The accused and his companions picked a fight with the officers, took their identification, and damaged it. After assaulting the officers, they were thrown into Imtiyaz’s Toyota Fortuner as they fled the scene.

The cops were startled by this rapid action and promptly reported their superiors, who in turn notified the Rachakonda police. Police sent teams out right away and also set up naka bandis on the highways encircling Kranti Nagar. The police in Hyderabad and Cyberabad have also been notified to keep an eye out for the suspects.

Additionally, based on nearby CCTV footage, authorities were able to identify the Fortuner and stop it at a naka at Dilsukhnagar, which is around 4 km from Kranti Nagar.

Another suspect, Khayyoom, is running away, according to DCP Sai Sri, and teams are working to find him. The detained suspects are taken to judicial remand.
