GST Red Flag: Carraro India Caught Issuing Multiple E-Way Bills for Same Invoice

Carraro India Limited has been issued a Show Cause Notice cum Demand SCND by Office of Superintendent, Range I, Division VII (Shirur), CGST Pune-I Commissionerate. The notice is dated 27 June 2025 and was received by the Sr. Director of the company, on the same day at 5:15 PM. The notice pertains to the financial year 2018-19.

As per the SCND, the company has been alleged to have generated multiple E-Way bills for the same invoice during FY 2018-19. It is further stated that the corresponding tax liability was not declared in the GST returns for that period.

Based on these allegations, a tax demand of Rs 17,67,933 has been raised under Section 74(1) of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017, along with applicable interest under Section 50(1) and an equivalent penalty. The total amount demanded aggregates to Rs 35,35,866.

Carraro India Limited has confirmed that it is going to respond to the SCND within 30 days of receipt in accordance with legal advice, which will be filed to the Superintendent, Division-VII, Central GST, Pune-I Commissionerate.

The company has also clarified that the SCND does not have any immediate impact on its financial, operational, or other activities. It further expressed confidence in receiving relief from the concerned authority regarding the tax demand.
