Penalty Imposed on Bharti Airtel Ltd for Violation of Subscriber Verification Norms

Bharti Airtel Ltd has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications, Assam LSA, on June 25, 2025, which has alleged the company of violating norms of subscriber verification. The notice mentions a penalty of Rs. 6,48,000 imposed on the company by the Department of Telecommunications. Under the licence agreement, Airtel is obligated to:
  • Thoroughly verify every customer before enrolling them as a subscriber.
  • Follow the instructions issued by DoT in order to verify customers.
BSE Fined Rs. 25 Lakh by SEBI Over Compliance Lapses
The DoT allegedly found in a periodic audit that Airtel has violated some norms of subscriber verification and hence has imposed a penalty on the company. The company made a disclosure of the matter to NSE and BSE in compliance with Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements), Regulations, 2015. It also stated that it does not agree with the notice and will take necessary steps to defend itself.
