GSTR 3B-2B Mismatch: NIIT Gets GST Notice for claiming disallowed ITC

NIIT Limited has informed the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) about receiving a GST Show Cause Notice (SCN) from the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, Delhi. This notice is related to certain differences identified for the financial year 2020-2021. As per the disclosure made by the company, the SCN demands a total amount of Rs. 4.15 crore which consists of Rs. 2.33 crore in tax demand, Rs. 1.59 crore in interest and Rs. 0.23 crore in penalty.

The notice is about the issues including a mismatch between the GST credit reported in GSTR-3B and GSTR-2A. The differences in the credit claimed through the Input Service Distributor (ISD) and inconsistencies found in the annual GST return filed by the company. The communication was received on July 10, 2025, regarding this matter.

After the review, the company believes that the SCN is not maintainable. It plans to file a proper reply to the notice. According to the company’s primary assessment, there are no significant impacts expected on its financials, operations, or any other business activities. This disclosure made by the company is in compliance with Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015, and the SEBI Master Circular issued on November 11, 2024.

The company has said that it will remain committed to complying with all the applicable tax regulations and is taking all the needed actions to address the concerns raised in the notice. NIIT also stated that it will continue to involve with legal and tax experts to make sure the appropriate representation and resolution of the matter due course.
