The Government of India has released multiple official orders dated July 09 and 10, 2025, announcing the appointments of Technical Members (State) in the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) Benches in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. These appointments are made by the President of India under the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (Appointment and Conditions of Service of President and Members) Rules, 2023, published on 25.10.2023, and the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 (12 of 2017), as amended from time to time. 1. Appointment of Shri Sanjay Kumar Mawandia (Bihar Bench – Patna)
Shri Sanjay Kumar Mawandia, Retired Special Commissioner of State Tax, Bihar (from Patna), is being appointed as the Technical Member (State) for the GSTAT State Bench in Bihar at Patna at a monthly salary of Rs. 2,25,000 (fixed). The appointment is being made for a tenure period of 4 years from the date he joins the post, or till he turns 67 years old, whichever happens earlier.
Joining instructions:
- He must join the Principal Bench in New Delhi on or after 1st August 2025, and within four weeks of that date.
- He must also submit a medical fitness certificate issued by an authorised health authority in Bihar.
- He is required to report at the Principal Bench in New Delhi on or after August 1, 2025, and within 4 weeks.
- He must submit a medical fitness certificate issued by a recognised authority in Uttar Pradesh.
- He must also take charge at the Principal Bench in New Delhi on or after 1st August 2025, within a 4-week period, and provide medical fitness proof from a recognised medical authority in UP.
- He must report for duty at the Principal Bench in New Delhi from 1st August 2025 onwards, within four weeks, and submit a medical fitness certificate from a Gujarat-based authority.
- Salary: All appointees will receive the same fixed salary, i.e., Rs. 2,25,000 per month.
- Tenure: 4 years from the date they join or until they turn 67 years old.
- Reporting Location: All members must first report at the Principal Bench of GSTAT in New Delhi after August 1, 2025 and within 4 weeks of that date.
- Medical Fitness Requirement: Each person must submit a medical fitness certificate from a recognised authority in their respective state where the GSTAT Bench is located.
