ICMAI Extends UDIN Generation Time Limit to 60 Days, Ensuring Ease of Doing Business
The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), a statutory body under an Act of Parliament (under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs), has recently issued a notice (Ref. No.: G/128/10/2025), dated October 18, 2025, titled "Revision in the time limit for UDIN generation."
According to the notice, the Institute's council has extended the time limit for generating the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) to 60 days. Earlier, this time limit was for 30 days. Meaning the time limit has been doubled. This action has been taken to ensure ease of doing business in the country.
At the end of the notice, the institute mandated the practising cost accountant to comply with this revised time limit to generate UDIN.
UDIN stands for Unique Document Identification Number. It is a unique identifier for documents certified or attested by a full-time practising professional, like a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA). This number is generated from the system and is used to verify the genuineness of documents and control malpractices by ensuring that only qualified professionals can attest to them.
