The Income Tax Department conducted raids in several areas on Thursday, including the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to sources, some 70 officials of the Income Tax Department have been conducting searches in various locations since early Thursday morning.

Simultaneous raids were carried out on sites held by famous businesses involved in building materials, real estate brokerage, petrol pump operations, and prominent jeweller.

In Dhar, searches were conducted at 12 places, including residences and businesses.

R.C. Jain, a well-known building materials trader from Manawar; Golu Pahadia, a petrol pump owner; and property brokers Pankaj Godha, Zaheer Sheikh, and Rajesh Sharma are among those targeted in the raids.

While in Indore, searches were conducted at the residence of cotton dealer Suresh Mehta.

According to sources, Income Tax officials are reviewing documents to validate concerns about undeclared wealth that exceeds known income sources.

Raids were undertaken in response to a complaint filed against numerous notable businesspeople, accusing them of having more assets than revenue., according to the source. Similarly, in Rajgarh, Income Tax officials searched four jewellry stores, including Kesar and SV Jewellers.

During the interrogation, officials closed the shutters and questioned the shop proprietors. Even mobile phones were shut off.

The Income Tax Department has yet to release its findings, noting that more information will be revealed once the probe is completed, according to persons familiar with the situation.

Raids continued until late at night, with police troops providing intense security.

Police cordoned off buildings where searches were being conducted. Many buildings have been sealed.
