ITC Reconciliation from GSTR-2B instead of GSTR-2A in Form GSTR-9 from FY 2023-24 onwards [GST Notification]
Ministry of Finance vide notification number 20/2024 – Central Tax dated 8th October 2024 has notified that Data from Form GSTR-2B will be used instead of Form GSTR-2A for generation of Table 8A of GSTR-9 (GST Annual Return). This Table was used for Input Tax Credit (ITC) reconciliation in the GST Annual Return.
This new provision is applicable for FY 2023-24 and Onwards.
In instructions of GST Annual Return, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) already notified that "For FY 2023-24 onwards, the total credit available for inwards supplies (other than imports and inwards supplies liable to reverse charge but includes services received from SEZs) pertaining to the financial year for which the return is being furnished and reflected in table 3(I) of FORM GSTR-2B shall be auto-populated in this table." However, the Form still read ITC as per GSTR-2A. This error has been rectified by Board now.
From January 1, 2022, onwards, registered persons were required to claim ITC that appears only in FORM GSTR-2B. Accordingly, to align with the aforementioned changes, the CBIC has substituted FORM GSTR-2A with FORM GSTR-2B for the purpose of reconciliation.
