ITR Update: Tax Data to be updated by June 15; Taxpayers Advised to Wait Before Filing The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for filing ITR till September 15, 2025. Earlier, the date was July 31, 2025. This extension has provided a big relief to taxpayers. However, some taxpayers consider it a burden and generally want to file it immediately to get rid of it. But all taxpayers should note, the department has not uploaded the data for filing ITR on its portal yet. This may cause discrepancies in the ITRs.

Why Deadline of 15th June

Please note that the due date to issue TDS/ TCS Certificate for assessment year 2025-26 by your employer or banks, insurance companies, the registry department, and other financial institutions is 15th June. Through this, details such as taxpayers’ TDS, TCS, tax deposits (Form 26AS), AIS, etc., are uploaded to the Income Tax Department’s portal. So far, TDS returns and yearly financial details of high-value transactions have not been uploaded. These are expected to appear on the Income Tax portal by June 15, 2025.

Filing ITR in haste may lead to unnecessary extra compliance

The taxpayers should not immediately run towards filing the ITR. They should begin the process only once the department uploads sufficient data on the portal. Once the data is successfully updated on the portal, when taxpayers visit the portal for filing ITR, they will automatically get the data in 26S, AIS, and TIS. In case you file ITR in haste, there are high chances to receive an Income Tax Notice when Tax data is updated. Thus filing ITR in haste will leading to again revising the return again once update comes.
