July Tax Deadlines 2026: Three Important Dates You Should Not Miss
If you’ve been putting off your tax work, July is the time to do it. This month has several important tax deadlines, be it filing of your Income Tax Return (ITR) or making your Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) payments.
Missing these deadlines could result in late fees, interest charges and other penalties. Whether you’re a salaried employee, business owner or employer, tracking these dates can help you stay compliant.
July 7 is the first important deadline.
Last date for deposit of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) for April-June quarter in cases where quarterly payment approval has been granted by the Assessing Officer under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
The deadline also applies to submitting certain declarations and prescribed forms received during the quarter ending June 2026.
In addition, government offices, stock exchanges, authorised dealers, IFSC units and intermediaries handling investments for non-resident investors must complete their required tax reporting by the due dates.
The next key deadline is July 30.
This is the last date for businesses and other tax deductors to submit the challan-cum-statement for some taxes which were deducted at source in June 2026.
Timely filing of the statement is important to avoid penalties. Tax deductors should check their records well in advance to avoid last minute mistakes.
July 31 is the biggest tax deadline of the month.
It is also the last day for people to file their Income Tax Return (ITR) for Financial Year 2025-26 (Assessment Year 2026-27) in ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms.
Taxpayers who miss the deadline could be hit with a penalty for filing late. They may also lose the benefit of carry forward of certain losses to future assessment years where applicable.
Tax experts have suggested that it is better to file your ITR much before the deadline as heavy traffic on the income tax portal or missing documents can cause delays.
