MCG Cracks Down on 35 Property Tax Defaulters in Gurgaon, Rs. 3.6 Crore Dues Pending
The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has found 35 individuals and businesses who have not paid their property tax. Together, they owe Rs. 3.6 crore. MCG will now send them notices to recover the money. This step has been followed after a recent drive where the civic body had already sent notices to 69 other tax defaulters who owe Rs. 18.2 crore in taxes.
Zonal taxation officer Pankaj Kumar has reported, "In the last two weeks, we gave out 69 notices to the property tax defaulters who owe us Rs 18.23 crore. We will issue 35 notices on Tuesday to ensure recovery of the outstanding property tax dues."
In the ongoing financial year (FY), the property tax revenue projection is estimated at Rs. 275 crore, which is less in comparison to the previous financial year's projection, i.e., Rs. 300 crore. In the financial year 2024-25, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) generated an overall income of Rs. 232.9 crore, which is 77% of the projected value.
Property tax is one of the major sources of revenue besides stamp duty for MCG, which is one of the highest revenue-earning municipal corporations of Haryana. Property tax is one of the main ways through which MCG earns money, along with stamp duty. MCG is also one of the top municipal corporations in Haryana when it comes to collecting revenue.
Simultaneously, the government of Haryana has offered a 10% discount on property tax for the financial year 2025-26, the condition is that owners pay their complete outstanding property tax by July 31, 2025.
Additionally, it is essential for the property owners to update and confirm their property tax details on the No-Dues Certificate (NDC) portal themselves. They can get a discount by paying the tax online through the official NDC Haryana website or at nearby citizen service centres.
If the property tax is not paid on time, the government charges 18% yearly interest. Officials said that properties with unpaid taxes can also be sealed or sold through auction.
