Mumbai Customs seizes 3 kg Gold and iPhones in separate cases at CSMI Airport

The Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone III, seized around 3.03 kg of gold worth Rs.1.66 crore and two iPhones in ten different cases at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport during the four days, from March 1-4, 2024.

In one instance, an unclaimed gold bar of 24 KT gold 700 grams was detected by Indigo Airlines staff on Indigo Flight 6E 1122 (Phuket to Mumbai) underneath a passenger seat. The seized gold was handed over to a Mumbai Customs official, and an investigation is currently underway.

In another case, an Indian national travelling from Dubai to Mumbai on Air India Flight AI 920 was intercepted, and 24 KT gold dust in wax weighing 390 grams was discovered secreted in the rectum.

In another case, airport cleaning staff discovered unclaimed gold in the form of 24 KT gold dust in wax weighing 390 grams in a restroom near Vector 5. The seized gold was handed over to Mumbai Customs officials and an investigation is currently underway.

The fourth case relates to an Indian National, travelling from Singapore to Mumbai vide Singapore Airlines Flight SQ 424. The passenger was intercepted and two 24 KT gold Kada having a net weight of 235 grams were found concealed on the passenger’s body.

Another Indian national was intercepted while flying from Riyadh to Mumbai on Saudia Airlines Flight SV 740, and four pieces of 24 KT gold bangles weighing 233 grams were discovered concealed on the person’s body.

Another Indian national, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai on Emirates Flight EK 504, was detained and discovered to be carrying 24 KT gold jewellery weighing 230.00 grams concealed on his body.

Another Indian National, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai vide Spicejet Flight SG 60 was intercepted and found to carry 24 KT Gold jewellery and 22 KT Gold chain collectively weighing 220.00 grams concealed within the body of the person.

In another example, an Indian national travelling from Dubai to Mumbai on Emirates Flight EK 504 was intercepted and found to be carrying 24 KT gold kada rhodium plated weighing 220.00 grams disguised in the person’s clothing.

Another Indian National, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai vide Air India Flight AI 984 was found to carry 24 KT Gold jewellery, thodium plated coins, cut pieces of wire collectively weighing 215.00 grams, and two iPhones were also recovered from the person.

Gold jewellery was discovered concealed on the person’s body, a gold-cut piece of wire was hidden in amul butter, a handkerchief, and garments, and iPhones were hidden in a handbag.

Yet another Indian National, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai vide Indigo Flight 6E 1395 was intercepted and two 24 KT Gold Chains weighing 200.00 grams were found concealed on the body.
