NEET PG 2022: Supreme Court gives permission NMC to extend admission schedule

NEET PG 2022: The Supreme Court granted the National Medical Commission (NMC) permission to extend the deadline for NEET PG applicant admissions. The commission has until November 25 to finish the admissions procedure for postgraduate students, according to the apex.

Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli, who made up the decision-making panel, deemed the NMC’s reasoning to be “bona fide.” NMC had asked for this extension as according to an order passed by the Supreme Court in 2016, the commission cannot conduct admissions in PG medical courses after May 31″.

The medical commission asserted that counselling for the academic years 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 was not completed on time as a result of the Covid pandemic and the lockdowns it prompted, thus delaying the start of the academic year.

On its official website, natboard.edu.in, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) recently announced the updated cut-off scores for NEET PG counselling 2022. Given that there were many open seats in the PG admissions counselling that was held last year, the decision to lower the NEET PG cut-off was made.

Students who would be assigned seats in the mop-up round were scheduled to report to their respective institutions by November 14 in accordance with the NMC’s initial schedule, which was released after roughly a three-month delay following the release of results in June this year. On November 9, the outcomes of the mop-up counselling were supposed to be released. Any alterations to the dates will be reported on StudyCafe.in in accordance with the Supreme Court bench’s decision from today, which permitted the NMC to extend the counselling schedule.

This year, candidates had been calling for a postponement of the NEET PG exam, which was held in May. They had given the COVID-19 pandemic as the justification for their request, which was a lack of preparedness. A postponement of the start of the PG academic year will have an effect on patient care nationwide, the NMC had warned the Supreme Court. The students’ request had been turned down by the Supreme Court.
