No proposal to extend the deadline of Income Tax Return: Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj

The Finance Secretary Mr. Tarun Bajaj has said that there is no proposal to extend the due date of Income Tax Return [ITR]. This announcement was made in Press conference of Todays GST Council Meeting,

He added that the Income Tax Portal is working smoothly. by 3 PM today, 5.6 Cr ITRs have been filed. This year 60 Lakhs more ITR’s have been filed than Last Year.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes [CBDT] has already extended the due date for filing Income Tax Return [ITR] from 30th July 2021 to 30th December 2021 for Non-Audit Cases.

Due to the difficulties faced by taxpayers and other stakeholders in filing income tax returns on the government’s new tax portal, which was experiencing technical issues, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Income Tax Department extended the deadline for filing income tax returns from September 30, 2021, to December 31, 2021, on September 9, 2021. On December 31, 2021, you must file your income tax return (ITR) for the fiscal year 2020-21. The deadline for reporting ITRs for FY2020-21 (AY2021-22) has been extended by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to December 31, 2021.

Department has been issuing constant reminders to taxpayers to duly file the return on time so as to avoid Late Fees.
