Swiggy said on Thursday that more than 50,000 delivery partners across India have used its app to file their income tax returns (ITRs). Together, they claimed around Rs 6.5 crore in tax refunds.

The ITR filing service is available to delivery partners working with both Swiggy’s Food Marketplace and Instamart. Most partners used the service to claim refunds on the 1% tax deducted from their earnings as TDS during the financial year.

Swiggy said more than one-third of the delivery partners who used the service filed an income tax return for the first time.

The company said filing an ITR can also help delivery partners create a formal financial record. This could make it easier for them to get loans, rent homes and access other financial services.

Saurav Goyal, Chief Operating Officer of Food Marketplace at Swiggy, said having a recognised financial identity is important for the long-term financial stability of delivery partners.

He said the ITR filing support was helping thousands of delivery partners become part of the formal financial system. It could also help them build a credit history and improve access to financial services for themselves and their families.

Swiggy has partnered with tax platforms ClearTax, TaxBuddy and Dvara Money to offer the ITR filing service.

The company has also earlier partnered with the National Stock Exchange and Zerodha to provide financial training to delivery partners and help them learn about investing for the future.
