As all taxes will be collected online starting on July 1st, the state transportation department will close 37 checkpoints or tax collection centres at the interstate crossings, according to officials on Tuesday.

The chief minister announced on Friday that starting on July 1 all interstate tax for automobiles entering Rajasthan will be remitted online to make things easier for vehicle operators.

The seamless flow of traffic at the borders will be improved, according to officials, and traffic congestion will be decreased. A penalty of five times the unpaid tax must be paid by the unpaid tax offender.

“For more than five years, we have been collecting interstate tax online. However, the government has decided to totally switch to online collection in order to enhance highway traffic flow and decrease time and fuel waste. The full process will be carried out through our website starting next month, Currently, 70% of the collection is done online and the other 30% is done through check-posts”, according to a senior department official.

Commercial vehicles entering the state must pay the interstate fee, and individual automobiles must pay the tax as well if their stay exceeds 30 days, according to the officials.

The official stated that before the end of this month, announcements will be made to raise awareness along with the installation of signs and banners at checkpoints so that travellers entering the state are informed about the new approach. The district transport officials will also be asked to spread awareness about the change.
