Rana Sugars Receives GST Demand of Rs 53.28 Lakh, Likely to Challenge Order Before Appellate Authority
Rana Sugars Limited just told the stock exchanges it is facing a hefty GST demand Rs 53.28 lakh—from the Central Goods and Services Tax department in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The notice came from the Additional Commissioner (Appeal), Grade II, landing on their desk April 30, 2026. Here is how the amount breaks down: Rs 23.42 lakh for the main tax demand, Rs 27.51 lakh in interest, and another Rs 2.34 lakh as penalty. The issue’s tied to alleged compliance problems from the 2019–20 financial year at their Belwara, Moradabad, manufacturing unit.
According to their disclosure, the tax department flagged irregularities in how Rana Sugars handled e-way bills—mainly concerns around cancelling and regenerating them. There was also a problem with excess molasses found during a check and some issues with distributing bio-compost without proper compliance. These are the main reasons behind the demand.
Rana Sugars is not taking this lightly. The company insists it responded properly to all queries and notices, sending detailed explanations and documents, but feels the tax authority didn’t really take their side into account before issuing this order. They’re calling the demand legally unsustainable, claiming their explanations were ignored.
On the business side, Rana Sugars says this demand would not actually dent their operations or financial health. They trust their case and intend to challenge the order, probably appealing to the relevant tribunal under GST law. They are looking at all their legal options right now.
This whole disclosure is to keep everything clear for investors, following SEBI rules. Rana Sugars promises to update the stock exchanges if anything changes and plans to do whatever’s needed legally to protect the company’s interests.
