Ruchi Kalra: India’s Most Successful Start-Up Founder, Founded two Businesses Worth Rs 52,000 Crore
Ruchi Kalra: Ruchi Kalra is a blue-eyed boy in the world of start-ups. She has achieved the herculean feat of founding two unicorns and both of which are profitable. She is India’s most successful start-up founder who founded two unicorns worth Rs 52,000 crores. She founded Ofbusiness and Oxyzo with her husband Asish Mohapatra.
Ruchi Kalra launched OfBusiness, a business-to-business (B2B) platform that distributes raw materials, industrial supplies, and other goods, in 2015. The company is valued at Rs 44,000 crore. She is the CEO of Oxyzo Financial Services, OfBusiness’ lending arm, which received $200 million at a valuation of $1 billion (Rs 8200 crore). As a result, Ruchi Kalra along with her husband Asish Mohapatra became the first couple in India to manage and operate two unicorns. They are the most successful start-up couple in India.
Her business acumen can be assessed by the fact that in an era when big startups are unable to negotiate the issue of profitability, she is leading two massive profit-making firms. Kalra’s business strategy is to exact profit from every transaction. This technique does not sit well with investors who desire to expand by burning money. Undeterred, the pair run their firms with profitability in mind.
Ruchi Kalra has always been a very intelligent person with leadership skills. She hails from Gurugram, Haryana. She completed her graduation from IIT Delhi. Upon graduation, She obtained her MBA degree from the Indian School of Business (ISB), just like her husband. Ruchi worked as a partner for 8 years at McKinsey. She co-founded Ofbusiness in 2015. She founded the Oxyzo company in 2017. She co-founded both start-ups with her husband. She believes that profit has co-existed with growth. According to her, start-up founders should uphold all the laws of the land, while keeping a close watch on costs.
The offices of both her start-ups are in Gurugram. She and her husband, Asish Mohapatra, manage separate offices in Gurugram. Oxyzo is a lending platform for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). It has revolutionized the lending strategy in India. They offer loans to small and medium-sized businesses. Oxyzo essentially provides financing to customers who purchase items through their marketplace.
