Sriram Murthy Thyagarajan: One of the Wealthiest Businessmen Who Chose Simplicity Over Luxury
In a country where the wealth of a person is often measured by expensive cars and luxurious houses, one of india's richest businessmen lives a very simple life. Sriram Murthy Thyagarajan, the owner of Sriram Finance Company, has given loans to every 50th person in India. Yet, he lives his life in simplicity.
Despite having a wealth of Rs 1.70 lakh crore, Thyagarajan does not show off any of it and has no arrogance. He lives in a small house and drives a simple car, a Maruti Alto. At the present time, where every third person owns a smartphone, he avoids using one.
He uses a simple keypad phone on which only a limited number of people can call him, including his family, the company's CEO and emergency calls. To buy household stuff and groceries, he goes by himself wearing basic clothes. He owns a few pairs of clothes, which he repeats.
Out of his earnings, Thyagarajan only keeps Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000, and he donates the rest of his earnings. He has recently donated Rs 6,866 crore for the education and healthcare of poor children. This shows his belief in using his surplus wealth for the betterment of society.
While many people spend the borrowed money on luxury cars just to show off their lifestyle, the man who provides those loans lives a basic life.
