State Tax Department collects a penalty of Rs.1.71 crore from GST defaulters The State Taxes Department imposed a penalty of Rs.1.71 crores on vehicles/defaulters for transporting goods in violation of the GST Act/ Rules from April 2023 to December 2023. On the orders of Commissioner State Tax Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Rashmi Singh, and Addl Commissioner, State Taxes (Adm and Enforcement), Jammu, Namrita Dogra, enforcement activities were carried out in all five districts of Jammu North, namely Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, and Udhampur, under several sections including Sec 129 of the GST Act 2017. Anil Kumar Chandail, Deputy Commissioner Enforcement, Jammu North, supervised teams led by State Tax Officers Bhupinder Singh, Rohit Sharma, and Inspectors for daily enforcement activities in which around 27000 vehicles were intercepted/checked, 200,000 E-Way Bills were verified, and the penalty amount was realized. A special emphasis was placed on scrap items, from which Rs. 56 lakh was derived from 48 automobiles. According to a press release published by the department, the department is focusing on mass awareness/ sensitization of taxpayers and consumers in order to increase compliance with GST standards and revenue realization. Teams of Circle officers are conducting surveys, consultations, and interactions under the name of the Zonal Convergence Forum in order to reach out to the people. GST Suvidha Kenders are now operational in all circle offices for the convenience of customers and taxpayers, according to the release.
